Development of GML schema for S-52 ENC data and its SVG representation based on S-52

Francis Kang - InComKorea, JongMin Park - KRISO

The International Hydrographic Organization's ECDIS S57/S52 standard is a key component in nautical charting and maritime applications. The format is used to distribute and update digital hydrographic vector data, such as sounding, buoys, and lighthouses. Like other digitalized information, the standardized data cannot be free from interoperability issue. Furthermore, need for data integration of geographic information from both land and marine environment is growing in both pubic and private sector in Korea.

This joint research between InComKorea and KRISO (Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering) aims at developing Korean version of GML schema for S-57 ENC data and its SVG representation based on S-52. It is expected that the schema and SVG representation will aid the interoperability of land and marine geographical data in different platforms managed by different vendors
