GML Days 2004 Workshops

Workshop 4: Half Day XQuery with Examples

XQuery is a language for querying XML databases as well as other collections of 1 or more XML documents.  Soon XQuery will formally include update capabilities, although numerous extensions exist in industry.  XPath 2.0 is very similar to XQuery and shares many of the same specifications.

Workshop 5: Half Day cGML and Mobile Geographic Computing

This half-day course is designed to get developers started with mobile computing and mobile cartography applications. It introduces new paradigms and constraints of mobile geographic applications development, operating systems and development environment tailored for mobile devices. SymbianOS and Java2 MicroEdition will be used as reference environments for practical applications.

Part II

Workshop 6: An Introduction to JPEG 2000 and GML for Geospatial imaging

Part one of this workshop will introduce the JPEG 2000 image compression system. We will cover the basics of image compression, the features that JPEG 2000 offers, and the new imaging workflows it enables. Emphasis will be on describing the breadth of the system, at the expense of details about how the system is implemented. Part two of this talk is will describe how GML can extend a raw image to provide an rich geospatial description the image and of the geographic features captured by the image. In particular, we will detail the structure and the components of a GML package that can be bundled in a JP2 file to provide image metadata for JPEG 2000.

Workshop 9: Half day eb RIM Registry-Repository Workshop

This half-day course is an introduction to the eb RIM Registry-Repository. The workshop starts off with an introduction to the registry centric Service Oriented Architecture, followed by an examination of a ebXML registry-repository. Finally, there will be a demonstration of registry usage.
